CHANGING THE LANDSCAPE

MEETING THE DIETARY NEEDS OF OLDER ADULTS

The number of older adults is rapidly rising. By 2030, 20% of the United States population will be 65 and older. The challenge is ensuring that these older adults are healthy and vibrant as they age. In 2013, nearly 10 million older adults in the United States experienced food insecurity.1

Older adults make significant choices about their health and nutrition, and may face challenges in receiving the nutrition they need. The Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine convened a workshop to examine factors that affect the ability of older adults to meet their daily dietary needs.
